Franc Lubbe grew up in the small town of Newcastle which is situated in Northern Natal. He completed his schooling here before jet setting to the UK to partake in in-house training in “Scottish and Newcastle” which was then the largest brewery in the United Kingdom.
Later down the line, Franc was very fortunate to kick start his training with two French chefs, one of which had a Michelin Star and the other who was a world pastry champ. He then moved on to learn much about the underrated Scottish cuisine at a small boutique hotel in Scotland. After one year spent in Scotland, he then moved to Oxford where he worked in a gastro pub and was later head hunted by another gastro pub in Windsor. He worked here for a further year under a 2 rosette chef.
Upon returning to sunny South Africa, he was employed by a Belgian restaurant in Cape Town called ZERO932, which won many awards. After spending five years in the Mother City, he then decided to move to the City of Gold (Johannesburg) where he met Mr Ernst Fisher, who afforded him the opportunity to head up the kitchen at the new African cuisine restaurant, Lekgotla - which is nestled amongst several other restaurants on Nelson Mandela Square situated in Johannesburg’s new-business hub, Sandton.
The food served at Lekgotla is modern contemporary African cuisine fused with flavours from north, east, south and west Africa. We only use the best products that South Africa has to offer to ensure that we deliver a superior food experience to our guests. We pride ourselves in MODERN CONTEMPORARY AFRICAN DINING, so patrons who enter our welcoming doors expecting traditionally African cuisine as we know it from the old days, may be very pleasantly surprised at our interpretations.
